The origin of wells
Wells have a long history. The first records of their use appeared in the ancient civilisations of China, Egypt and Mesopotamia. Back then people built mine-like wells, while more technologically advanced peoples began developing drilling methods that made it possible to reach deeper aquifers. Thanks to advances in engineering and science, humankind learned to draw water from underground layers without the risk of contamination and while preserving its natural composition.
The development of well drilling
As the need for clean water grew, drilling technology improved considerably. In the 20th century mechanised methods appeared that made it possible to reach significant depths with minimal impact on the environment. It was thanks to modern technology that in 1984 the Krivoozerska well, 80 metres deep, was drilled. It begins within the Ukrainian granite shield — a crystalline massif up to 4.5 billion years old. This means the water we drink passes through natural filters, becoming purified and enriched with trace elements that have a positive effect on the human body.

Wells are widely used in many areas:
- Supplying drinking water — their most important function, since groundwater is often cleaner and of higher quality than surface sources.
